Knack vs Motion

Two tools for the same question, built from opposite ends. Motion is a reporting tool that grew AI on top. Knack is a judgement tool that grew reporting underneath. Where that shows, with sources, including where Motion is ahead.

If you have used Motion, you know what it is good at: a report you build once, name, file in a folder and come back to, with the creative shown beside its numbers. That is real, and a lot of teams live in it. This page is about what Knack does differently and why, written by the person who built Knack, so read it as that. Everything about Motion below comes from Motion's own pricing page and help centre, read in September and October 2026, and is linked at the bottom. If any of it is out of date, tell us and it will be corrected.

The one line read

Motion's core object is a saved report. Knack's core object is a verdict. Motion tells you how every creative scored against the others in its campaign, on a 0 to 100 scale for hook, watch, click and convert. Knack tells you what to do about each one: scale, iterate or kill, typed and sized, with the numbers that produced the call, and it refuses to say anything when the data cannot support it.

Where they differ

QuestionKnackMotion
What does each creative get?A verdict: scale, iterate or kill. A kill names its cause (delivery, quality, cost, fatigue). An iterate names the stage that failed. A scale carries its sizing rule. Every read is kept, so a verdict that moved since the previous read says so: "ITERATE, was SCALE 7 days ago".Hook, Watch, Click and Convert scores from 0 to 100, relative to other ads in the same campaign.1
What happens with thin data?Three states: learning (launched this week), starved (a week old and the auction will not spend on it) and too early to call, with a published floor of 3,000 impressions and five purchases where purchases are reported. None is ranked, none is guessed at.A spend threshold filters low spend ads out of views.1 We found no stated position on when a score should not be trusted.
Graded against what? The metric the ad set's optimisation event implies, against the account's own average, or against a target CPA or breakeven ROAS you set. With a target, outside it is never scale. If ad sets count conversions on different attribution windows, Knack says so before comparing them.Other ads in the same campaign.1
Who finds out, and when? The account writes itself up overnight. On mornings when the read finds something notable or urgent, members who opt in get the note by email, urgent accounts first; quiet nights send nothing. Alert rules email you the morning a line is crossed: fatigue, a winner stalling, spend concentrating, an account dropping out of analysis.Reports update automatically. Motion's own weekly reporting guidance is to save the report and change the date range by hand; scheduled delivery is through a third party integration.2 We found no alerting or anomaly detection in the help centre.2
Where does a video lose people?A retention curve per video from Meta's quartile views, drawn against the account's, with the steepest fall after the hook marked and named: the setup, the middle or the ending. The client report counts videos by stage, so "four of six lose people in the setup" becomes the brief.A retention curve per video with the drop off second, in the creative's drill down.11 We found no roll up across videos by where they drop.
How is fatigue read?CPM rising while CTR holds is flagged first, as the leading sign. CTR against its own peak. Frequency bands that differ for prospecting and retargeting. Each flag shows its rule.Fatigue is a report you go and look at.2
Does it need your ad names? No. It reads the image or a frame of the video, so an inherited account works on day one. If your names do carry a convention, label the parts once and each becomes a dimension in Patterns beside the tags.AI tagging on every asset, plus naming convention parsing you set up as filter dimensions.3 Both are useful; the second depends on the convention holding.
FilteringThreshold filters that combine ("spend over $1,000 and ROAS under 1.5"), saved as named views.Per Motion's FAQ, filters use OR statements only.4
The client reportA written document that opens on the scorecard: win rate, spend behind the winners, fatigue, too early to call, the hooks that stop the scroll, what moved, win rate by kind of creative, briefs. Snapshotted when shared, so it cannot drift; one link, no login; Save as PDF for the file the client wants to keep.Live shared reports the client can filter and explore, with sensitive data hidden for freelancers or agencies.5 A better primitive for live access. Disconnecting an ad account removes its data and snapshot links.6
PlatformsMeta. TikTok next.Meta, TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn, one data source per report.5
PricingPer ad account. $99, $199, from $449 a month. Cancel any time.8Per dollar of monthly ad spend. Starter $750 a month up to $50k spend, Pro $1,200 over $50k, Growth custom over $125k.7
Who is it for?Teams running one to forty Meta accounts who want a call, not a chart. Agencies can pass the per account price through, and see every account's overnight read on one screen, urgent first.Motion states a floor of roughly $25k a month in spend and ten or more creatives.9 Everyone under that line is unserved.

Where Motion is ahead

It would be dishonest to leave these out, and a buyer will find them in ten minutes anyway.

The honest summary

If you want to build and file reports across four platforms and research competitors from the same tool, Motion is the more complete product today. If you want to open one page in the morning and know what to scale, what to kill, why, and when the data is too thin to say, that is what Knack is built to do, and it is priced for the accounts Motion's floor leaves out. Book a demo and we will run it on one of your accounts overnight.
